January 2014

And the first 2014 HQc books in English have been released. Soon enough, they’ll be available at amazon and other ebookstores.

Week 1

I’m pleased to see the continuation of the Lords of the Underworld series, as well as the second story of the Park avenue scandals. It’s ironic for me to see Marrying McCabe, for which I’ve been planning to purchase the raws. And up to the end of the year, I had been pondering whether to buy the raws of Sold into Marriage. Now, both of them are translated.

I wish the publisher could sign artists whose arts are more agreeable to me, so they would draw new versions of some mangas… I avoid a few Harlequin artists, unless their works are part of a set or sold at a real bargaining price. I’m shallow, you see. With pretty art, I’m able to read the cheesiest manga to the end. It doesn’t stop me from criticizing if it’s the worst story in the world, but I can read it to the last page. With fugly art, you can have the best story in the whole world, 95% of the time, I turn crazy obsessing over what’s bothering me with the drawings, making it impossible for me to focus on the story and ending disliking the book almost every time.

Week 2

I’m kinda amused to see the publisher releasing book #2 and #3 of the Throne of Judar series, but not yet book #1, which was coincidentally scanlated long ago. But I’m happy I can finally read the rest of the series, especially for Tanaka-sensei’s manga. There’s also the conclusion of the Princess swap series. Now if the publisher could also release the other ongoing series…

I’m glad to see another HQc illustrated by Natsu Yoshimi translated. The first time I saw the cover of By love alone, I thought I would hate it but I actually really loved it as well as the art style. It’s different but lively and very expressive.

Now, scratch my theory of the publisher selecting artists with nice or neutral art for the Western market. .·´¯`(>▂<)´¯`·.
I always wait till the very last moment before buying mangas illustrated by artists I prefer to avoid — you know, I’m the kind of person who focuses so much on the art, I can’t follow the story anymore because I just hate too much the art style. Not buying those mangas doesn’t really upset me though I feel a twinge — you can’t help it when you’re an obsessive collector. But buying them upset me big time. So between a twinge because I don’t buy them and becoming crazy annoyed because I have bought them, I often chose the first option.

Week 3

All right, we got now the Throne of Judar trilogy officially completed. The publisher also started the Australian Playboy series. I’m pretty much interested in Matsukawa-sensei and Tsuya-sensei’s books. Especially Tsuya-sensei’s, considering the heroine is handicapped and we don’t get enough of this different kind of female lead in our romance novels!

Week 4
The Chinese New year is in a little less of a couple of days and we get now the latest set of translated Harlequin comics released by the publisher. That’s a lot!

Quite a nice set for the last week of this month. There are a few of them for which I had been planning to purchase the raws. But now that they are out in English, I’ll save that for much later. I’m always glad to see more Hashimoto Takako-sensei’s HQc translated. Like I said before, the story could be crap, just sensei’s drawings can keep me going on reading to the last page. I like most artists from this batch. So I’m expecting to spend a nice time reading these.

HQcMarrying McCabe
By Fiona Brand & SHINOZAKI Kakuko

Décidément faut que j’arrête cette mauvaise manie. Encore une fois, j’étais tentée de me lancer dans la scantrad française d’un autre Harlequin comics récemment sorti en anglais : At the Greek Tycoon’s Bidding.

Greetings everyone! May 2014 brings you happiness. Here’s my first post of the year to update my raws collection with my latest acquisitions. Two of them are already translated and published, but I could have the Japanese versions at a bargaining price so I didn’t hesitate and purchased them.

Harlequin comics

As usual, if someone is interested in scanlating one or more stories presented in this post or listed in my Harlequin & Romance comic raws collection, you can submit a request for the raws HERE.

Now, let’s have a look at these mangas.
